Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The previous cleanse of the Stone Vigil at the hands of the Warrior of Light and their allies proved sufficient to reclaim their airship, but the reconquest did not succeed in reclaiming the Vigil itself. The Dravanians simply moved back in. House Durendaire, the noted house of astrologians and warriors in Ishgard, resolved to reclaim the Vigil themselves. The venerable family was cowed by the presence of heretics and spies in their ranks, uncovered previously by outsiders to Ishgard, adding insult to injury. Lord Drillemont, one of Durendaire's foremost knights and one of the men responsible for helping to bring the infiltrators to justice, led an … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard)
The Diremites Taxonomy: Vilekin (Diremite) Description: Creatures with a strict social hierarchy not unlike an ant, diremites live in nomadic colonies that devour all the food in an area and then move on. There were representatives of the lowest rank of the hierarchy in the Deepcroft this time, mitelings, a caste that focuses on performing labor for the colony. There were also members of the middling rank of the diremite species, simply called diremites, who are the soldiers that act as guards to the colony. Finally there were banemites, egg-laying females that typically lead diremite colonies. Demon Pawn Taxonomy: Voidsent (Demon) Description: Commonly referred to as ‘reapers of souls’ by the … [Read more...]
The Tam-Tara Deepcroft (Hard) – A Tragedy in Motion
Excerpt from ‘The history of the Black Shroud, from Amdapor to Gridania’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The events that struck the Deepcroft a short period after the Lambs of Dalamud were slaughtered in its tunnels began in a small rural village in the foothills of Alabathia's Spine and ended in the ancient ruins of Gelmorra beneath the Shroud, provoking a potential disaster of regional proportions. The Deepcroft Proper The central room of the Deepcroft is a colossal vaulted chamber. The walls are populated by antechambers not current accessible by the main room, and which likely contain the remains of Gelmorra’s aristocracy and royalty. Indeed, reports on the Deepcroft discuss the emblazonment of the subterranean city’s crest. This crest … [Read more...]
The Hyur – From Migratory Conquerors to the Eorzean Everyman
Tome Retrieved – ‘The Races of Eorzea and Beyond‘ by Archon Niniri Niri The Hyur have long been one of Eorzea's eminent races, arriving on the continent before even the First Astral Era from an unknown location, although at the time they remained a minor species and it wasn't until the early Sixth Astral Era that they undertook a migration from northern Ilsabard across the three great continents, swelling in number in Eorzea. They began a second migration centuries later in 660 of the Sixth Astral Era, further increasing their numbers in Eorzea and pushing the elezen out of their ancestral homelands into the Black Shroud. Less than a century later the hyur themselves began to move into the Shroud, further provoking conflict with the … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Hullbreaker Isle

Hullbreaker Isle – The Mists Revealed
Excerpt from ‘The history of Vylbrand, from Nym to Limsa Lominsa’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Just to the south of Vylbrand are the Cieldalaes, a reasonably sized island chain that is host to Hullbreaker Isle, an island of utter mystery that was more-or-less unknown for centuries. This was because of the Doxy's Pull, a phenomenon that took the form of thick, impenetrable mists which almost ensured that any ship which entered the area around the Isle would wash up on the rocks and shipwreck. This is where the island's name originates. It wasn't until the Seventh Umbral Calamity that the mists rose and revealed the island behind them, as well as the revelation that certain parties had already made it to the island when the island's explorers … [Read more...]
Leviathan – The Lord of the Whorl
From ‘Thoughts on the Primals – Malignant Divinity’ by Archon Niniri Niri Leviathan is a terrifying entity, worshipped by the sahagin of the Indigo Deep. Said to dwell in the depths of the ocean and often regarded as the originator of all waves in the ocean by not just the sahagin but also the sailors of other spoken races, creating a number of traditions involving the sacrifice of men to the creature. Leviathan has long been called on by the sahagin, but rarely have they called upon him to the degree that they did when the Seventh Umbral Calamity destroyed their spawning grounds, wreaking havoc upon their reproductive cycle. The spoken tradition of the sahagin holds that before Leviathan descended upon it the world was a … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of the Second Coil of Bahamut
Lunar Golem Taxonomy: Soulkin (Golem) Description: Golems are beings of stone animated by magic, with rumors suggesting that they may be easier to animate in the path of a calamity, although any real research will demonstrate that this is not the only time they are possible to create. These particular creatures names draw from the fact that they were animated by the energies of Dalamud. Dark Matter Roselet Taxonomy: Seedkin (Flying Trap) Description: Deeply predatory seedkin, flying traps rely on the use of their brightly colored petals to lure in prey which is then stuck to these petals by a secreted adhesive, and drained of nutrients by the plant’s roots. The Second Coil of Bahamut
Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of Dalamud’s Ruins – A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. It was at the zenith of ancient Allag, during the second reign of Xande, the revived Emperor, that the elder primal Bahamut was captured and ensorcelled within a colossal metal sphere containing vast apparatus aimed at imprisoning the primal and draining its power. This sphere would later go on to gain the name Dalamud, likely a derivation of Bahamut’s own name by later peoples, and was intended to generate power enough not only to sustain the Empire, but to bring destruction upon it by the madness-invoked apocalyptic designs of the Emperor. The Warrior of Light, in conjunction with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and other … [Read more...]
The Two Dynasties of Ul’Dah
From a small pamphlet entitled ‘A Primer on Eorzean Geopolitics for New Researchers’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The First Rule of Ul: The Ul dynasty is, in truth, a branch of the Belah'dian ruling dynasty, and emerged from that ancient bloodline in the year 964 of the Sixth Astral Era. The events that triggered this was the death of the reigning Sultan of Belah'dia and the succession crisis that ensued between Sasagan and Sasawefu, who had begun a civil war over the throne even before their father's demise, eventually culminating in the dissolution of Belah'dia in the year of 969 and the founding of Thanalan's twin nations, Sil'dih, ruled by Sasawefu and Ul'dah, under Sasagan, founder of the Ul dynasty. Soon after this founding Sasagan went … [Read more...]
