Excerpt from ‘The history of Thanalan, from Belah’dia to Ul’dah’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The Temple of Qarn, after being made safe by the intervention of a party of trusted adventurers, was given over to the Order of Nald’thal and the Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern in hopes of excavating the valuable secrets of Belah’dia. Unfortunately the approved authorities were not the only ones eager to unearth the treasures of Qarn, and a number of amateur adventurers triggered the traps hidden within, trapping the researchers in the Temple. Most urgently among these captives was Nenekko Neko, the daughter of the Concern’s chairman. The Sun Terrace Qarn opened on a wide plateau of elaborately carved stone lit with blue aether … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Sastasha (Hard)
Spelean Slug Taxonomy: Wavekin (Slug) Description: The giant slugs of Eorzea are nuisances on a grand scale due to the oozing secretions that coat their flesh, which have been observed as acidic enough to eat away even stone on some occasions. This has earned them a reputation amongst the inhabitants of the Aldenard, and they are often killed on sight or trapped using ale, which attracts them. These creatures have earned their title of 'spelean' (or cave-dweller) for their habit of living in caves, namely the seagrot. Dripping Sallet Taxonomy: Wavekin (Sallet Crab) Description: Such have been the wars and raids of Eorzea's coastlines that the ocean bed is littered with arms, armaments and bones. This is … [Read more...]
Sastasha (Hard) – The Predations of Leviathan
Excerpt from ‘The history of Vylbrand, from Nym to Limsa Lominsa’ by Archon Niniri Niri. In the wake of the Warrior of Light's purging of the Serpent Reavers from the Seagrot, it was hoped by the Limsan authorities that Sastasha would cease its habit of becoming a den of dangerous groups and creatures. In order to ensure this a contingent of Yellowjackets from the 4th levy, the group that presides over Western La Noscea. Unfortunately these attempts were doomed to fail, as not long after taking control of the cave system a horde of creatures that resembled horribly mutated men assaulted it, seizing the Seagrot once more. The Wauling Pond Upon first entry to the Seagrot the team once more found themselves in the Wauling Pond, an … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Snowcloak
Ibex Taxonomy: Beastkin (Antelope) Description: Speedy, herbivorous creatures, antelopes are common beastkin in Eorzea and beyond, communicating with sways of their tail. These ibex must have been orphaned from their natural habitats by the frigid cold of the Calamity, leading to them taking shelter in the glacier. Etymology Notes: Ibex are a real species of goat native to Africa, southern Europe and certain parts of Asia. Snowcloak Goobbue Taxonomy: Beastkin (Goobbue) Description: Huge, physically powerful creatures, Goobbue such as these play host to moss and lichen which they cultivate with water in dry times in exchange for it providing camouflage to the beast. Goobbue are utterly ferocious, … [Read more...]
Snowcloak – The Heretic Fane
Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Since ancient times the once-verdant lands of Coerthas were divided into segments by a colossal ravine, separating the central and western highlands. This landmark was fjorded only by the Gargoyle Crossing, a large man-made bridge. When the Calamity struck Eorzea however it struck Coerthas especially hard, turning the forested realm into a tormented landscape of ice and storms. An avalanche of nigh-impossible size struck the ravine, burying it and its bridge in an immense wall of ice, which would later form a glacier known as Snowcloak. The cold struck Coerthas so hard that a group of inhabitants from the Ishgardian town of Falcon’s Nest, plagued by … [Read more...]
F’lhaminn Qesh – Songstress, Saboteur, Mother
From a scrap of paper fallen from a sheaf of notes sent by Archon Niniri Niri to Old Sharlayan via a boat out of Limsa Lominsa. One might find the roots of Ms. Qesh in the entertainment spaces of Ul'dah, where the songs she sung enraptured even the surliest of merchants within the city. The songstress had a rather grander ambition however, and had joined with a number of other young luminaries of the city to gather political power by courting public opinion. Amongst this group were F'lhaminn and her lover, Niellefresne Thaudour, a goldsmith of note who was responsible for managing a grand parade throughout Ul'dah. They resolved to release a number of wild beasts within this parade before personally gaining control of them once again, … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Syrcus Tower
Oceanus Taxonomy: Wavekin (Sea Serpent) Description: Sea Serpents were once fantastically rare creatures, found only in the depths of the seas. With the calamity this began to change, with the serpents even daring to venture inland, where they have adjusted well to freshwater after their lives in the sea. Presumably these specimens predate all of those concerns, and were brought here by Allag in the Third Astral era, and it could be theorized that the adaptive salt-to-freshwater nature of their move inland could even hint at a chimeric origin. Etymology Notes: Oceanus was the titan personification of the ocean in Greek myths, and this is clearly easily applied to the serpents of Eorzea due to their nature as beings … [Read more...]
The Syrcus Tower – The Tyrant’s Throne
Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of The Crystal Tower – A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. '...As the old Emperor, Xande, rose from his deathly repose he was briefed by Amon on the state of the Empire. Xande moved at lightning speed, creating a loyal power base in a matter of days structured around the Imperial Honour Guard. This organisation assassinated the current Emperor and his loyal supporters, in the wake of which Xande revealed himself to the world. He quickly restored the Imperial army to its fullest potential, and directed them to invade the southern continent, Meracydia. For a time the Empire seemed to be restored to a golden age; the high suicide rates plummeted, the birth rates soared, the economy … [Read more...]
Ramuh – Lord of the Levin
From ‘Thoughts on the Primals – Malignant Divinity’ by Archon Niniri Niri Like many primals, Ramuh is seen by his worshippers as a personification of elemental forces. Namely, Ramuh is regarded as lightning given the form and wisdom of man, a keeper of secrets and being of ultimate sagacity. Ramuh is generally thought of by his sylph petitioners as benevolent, yet the role he plays is not a gentle one and the Lord of the Levin plays the role of judge, jury and executioner over those who trespass upon or profane the deep forests that the sylphs dwell within. Ramuh is traditionally summoned at the Striking Tree, a vast tree riddled with lightning strikes and pulsing with lightning-aspected aether. While Ramuh is a creator deity in … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of the Stone Vigil (Hard)
Storm Biast Taxonomy: Scalekin (Biast) Description: Drakes are ferocious predatory creatures with powerful tracking abilities and the ability to exhale gouts of fire. They are perhaps most famous as domesticated beasts of the Amalj’aa. A biast, however, is a subspecies that exhales lightning instead of fire. They were here in the Vigil as followers of the Horde, as scalekin are easily dominated by dragons. Shield Dragon Taxonomy: Scalekin (Puk) Description: Although puk such as these eat primarily small vilekin, they are fiercely territorial and will not hesitate to assault a much larger trespasser. Shield Dragons seem to belong to a wingless subspecies of Puk, as most of their kind do bear small … [Read more...]
