The Padjal – Children of the Twelveswood

June 10, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Tome Request - William Tome Retrieved - 'The history of the Black Shroud, from Amdapor to Gridania’' by Archon Niniri Niri One cannot truly discuss the modern Black Shroud or its inhabitants without mention of the rulers of Gridania - the eternally mysterious padjal. In effect a subspecies of the midlander hyurs, the eternally-young individuals are created by the blessing of the elementals and certain bloodlines seem to be especially commonly blessed with padjal births, typically becoming nobility by virtue of this. Padjal have been a prominent feature of Eorzea during the Sixth and Seventh Astral Era. The History of the Padjal - The origin of the Padjal is found in the subterranean city of Gelmorra, a mixed Hyuran-Elezen society … [Read more...]

Garuda – Lady of the Vortex

June 8, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

From ‘Thoughts on the Primals – Malignant Divinity’ by Archon Niniri Niri Garuda, goddess of the Ixal, is in equal parts terrible and beautiful, graceful and cruel. Her speed is the stuff of legend, as is her unpredictability, making her a figure of fear even amongst those Ixal that worship her. This same mischievous violence extends to the winds she is master of, which whip back and forth in deadly gales at even the slightest provocation. Garuda is generally summoned as part of the Ixal's plans to reclaim their place in the Black Shroud, as a weapon for use against the Gridanians. Garuda is traditionally summoned in the Howling Eye, a shrine of the Ixal found in Coerthas so saturated with wind aether that Garuda is able to whip it into … [Read more...]

Titan – Lord of Crags

June 7, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

From ‘Thoughts on the Primals – Malignant Divinity’ by Archon Niniri Niri Titan, the deity of the kobolds, is a mighty, indominable manifestation of the earth and the mountains. In the belief of the kobolds, Titan is not in fact a cruel or brutal god, instead being a kind and loving entity that cares for the kobold race greatly and whose aspect is that of a father. This, however, also leads to the fact that should Titan perceive his children as harmed or wronged he reacts with immense prejudice, seeking the death of any who profaned the kobolds or their lands. As of late, Titan has been summoned primarily to prosecute the kobolds case over inland Vylbrand, sandwiched between the kobold homeland of O'Ghomoro and the coastal regions … [Read more...]

Ifrit – Lord of the Inferno

June 6, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

From 'Thoughts on the Primals - Malignant Divinity’ by Archon Niniri Niri Ifrit, the deity of the Amalj'aa, is a terrifying entity, demonic even by the admission of his worshippers. With claws that melt iron, a breath that sears flesh and horns that sear the sky, Ifrit is commonly conceived of by scholars as a personification of the rage experienced by the Amalj'aa resulting from the settling of their holy lands by Ul'dah. If this is taken to be true, the berserker rage of Ifrit makes plenty of sense. Ifrit has traditionally been summoned in an area known as the Bowl of Embers, a basin of rock and sand nearby Zanr'ak that is colossally overaspected to the element of fire, resulting in constantly flickering flame and a general ambient … [Read more...]

The Bestiary of the Binding Coil of Bahamut

June 6, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

The Allagan Defense System ☠ Taxonomy: Forgekin (Defense Node) Description: The defense node was a creation of the fevered minds of Allag's upper class, too paranoid to entrust their knowledge to anything but a mechanical creation. Vast numbers of these creations could be found across key Imperial locations, and some scholars believe that Dalamud was essentially a defense node on a grand scale. This particular example of the nodes was a large, defense-specialized node, nicknamed the ADS for short by its creators. Capabilities: The ADS was a mighty contraption, and was capable of employing, amongst other things, a self-destruct protocol heralded by a loud 'click timer'. The device was also capable of compressing … [Read more...]

The Binding Coil of Bahamut

June 5, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of Dalamud's Ruins - A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. It was at the zenith of ancient Allag, during the second reign of Xande, the revived Emperor, that the elder primal Bahamut was captured and ensorcelled within a colossal metal sphere containing vast apparatus aimed at imprisoning the primal and draining its power. This sphere would later go on to gain the name Dalamud, likely a derivation of Bahamut's own name by later peoples, and was intended to generate power enough not only to sustain the Empire, but to bring destruction upon it by the madness-invoked apocalyptic designs of the Emperor. The Warrior of Light, in conjunction with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and other … [Read more...]

The Bestiary of Amdapor Keep

June 2, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

The Lambs of Dalamud Taxonomy: Spoken (Various) Description: The Lambs of Dalamud are a vile cult in service to their own divine perception of the lesser moon, Dalamud. The origin of the cult is shrouded in mystery, and although most believe them generated by the mass hysteria produced by the oncoming Seventh Umbral Calamity or planted by Garlean subversives, some scholars hypothesize an older origin, perhaps even dating back to the Fourth Astral Era, known as the Fall of Civilization, spurred on by a mingling of the relatively recently fallen Allagan Empire's history with the religious renaissance of the era. The Lambs hold that Dalamud is a divinity in and of itself, the ferocious hound of the moon goddess Menphina, … [Read more...]

Amdapor Keep – Amdapor’s Golgotha

May 27, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Excerpt from ‘The history of the Black Shroud, from Amdapor to Gridania’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Amdapor was founded in the aftermath of the Fifth Umbral Calamity, the Calamity of Ice, as the survivors migrated across the realm to found their own villages, each dedicated to one of the Twelve. Some of these villages grew into towns, then city-states. Amdapor was one of these, and survived the initial centuries of war and instability to emerge as one of the six larger surviving states. Amdapor was formed in Central Aldenard, in the region modernly named the South Shroud, by a group of hyur migrants who chose to build their home on a wide plain of white stone outside of the Twelveswood and 300 years after the age begun Amdapor had already … [Read more...]

The Bestiary of the Wanderer’s Palace

May 25, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

The Tonberries Taxonomy: Spoken (Tonberry) Description: Tonberries are the tragic Nymians afflicted by the plague of Bitoso, sent to smite Nym down by the Mhachi. Some of these figures apparently date back to the Fifth Astral Era, while others are more recent births. They have been driven quite mad by their fate, tragically, and are very aggressive. A particularly huge variant of the tonberry was apparently found in the Palace, nicknamed the stalker, which pursued foes at a slow pace. This creature was likely swollen due to a wild imbalance of aether, resulting in its size. Treasure Hunter Taxonomy: Spoken (Various) Description: Unfortunately, not all who approach the Palace do so with innocent curiosity … [Read more...]

Halone, the Fury – Mover of Glaciers and Goddess of War

May 24, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Tome Request - Harrow Levesque Tome Retrieved - 'On The Twelve and their Aspects - Halone, the Bitterfrost Spear' by Archon Niniri Niri Halone is famed as the Mover of Glaciers and Goddess of War, who strides forth with her bronze greatshield and mighty spear. This is reflected in her symbol, a trio of spears and her aspect, as a deity of ice. Halone is the patron of Ishgard, and in the past was the patron of an unknown city-state from the Fifth Astral Era. Some evidence, including that of the Elezen who settled in Coerthas long having worshipped Halone even by the time they arrived, suggests this state may have existed in Central Eorzea, while others point to ancient Dravanian cultures as this state. In the theology of the Twelve, … [Read more...]
