The Megalocrabs Taxonomy: Wavekin (Megalocrab) Description: Inhabitants of rivers and coastlines, the megalocrab is possessed of an astoundingly hard shell that can weather many an assault and have become famed for their size. Cermet Coblyn Taxonomy: Soulkin (Coblyn) Description: What exactly a coblyn is, differs depending on who you ask. The Keeper of the Lake – Silvertear Asunder
Excerpt from ‘The history of Mor Dhona, from Allag to an Adventurer's Hearth’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Dragons have ever featured in the ancient history of the Source, and indeed in Eorzean myth they were created by Althyk and Nymeia, the gods of time and fate alongside the element of water. Midgardsormr was born into existence as water was, and the Twelve entrusted him with the protection of Silvertear Lake that he might protect the essential magic which flowed from it. New revelations in history have revealed that this is not the true tale of Midgardsormr however. The great wyrm arrived at the nascent star extremely early in its history, and bought with him seven eggs. He struck a deal with Hydaelyn that he and his brood would be granted … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of the Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard)
Belah'dian Knight Taxonomy: Ashkin (Damned) Description: Presumably once the elite warriors and perhaps aristocratic scions of Belah'dia, these unliving remnants walked once more in order to defend the temple they were buried within. This may have been intentional as an attempt to defend the temple, or a result of the bloody wars that saw the end of Belah'dia, as catastrophe and tragedy can bring corpses back to life without direct intervention. Perhaps these warriors represent a martial tradition that the founders of Ul'dah would go on to draw from in their creation of the Sultansworn. Capabilities: The Belah'dian knights were able to 'ossify' their crumbling bodies in order to strengthen their physical … [Read more...]
The Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard) – Reckless ‘Archaeology’
Excerpt from ‘The history of Thanalan, from Belah’dia to Ul’dah’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The Temple of Qarn, after being made safe by the intervention of a party of trusted adventurers, was given over to the Order of Nald’thal and the Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern in hopes of excavating the valuable secrets of Belah’dia. Unfortunately the approved authorities were not the only ones eager to unearth the treasures of Qarn, and a number of amateur adventurers triggered the traps hidden within, trapping the researchers in the Temple. Most urgently among these captives was Nenekko Neko, the daughter of the Concern’s chairman. The Sun Terrace Qarn opened on a wide plateau of elaborately carved stone lit with blue aether … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Sastasha (Hard)
Spelean Slug Taxonomy: Wavekin (Slug) Description: The giant slugs of Eorzea are nuisances on a grand scale due to the oozing secretions that coat their flesh, which have been observed as acidic enough to eat away even stone on some occasions. This has earned them a reputation amongst the inhabitants of the Aldenard, and they are often killed on sight or trapped using ale, which attracts them. These creatures have earned their title of 'spelean' (or cave-dweller) for their habit of living in caves, namely the seagrot. Dripping Sallet Taxonomy: Wavekin (Sallet Crab) Description: Such have been the wars and raids of Eorzea's coastlines that the ocean bed is littered with arms, armaments and bones. This is … [Read more...]
Sastasha (Hard) – The Predations of Leviathan
Excerpt from ‘The history of Vylbrand, from Nym to Limsa Lominsa’ by Archon Niniri Niri. In the wake of the Warrior of Light's purging of the Serpent Reavers from the Seagrot, it was hoped by the Limsan authorities that Sastasha would cease its habit of becoming a den of dangerous groups and creatures. In order to ensure this a contingent of Yellowjackets from the 4th levy, the group that presides over Western La Noscea. Unfortunately these attempts were doomed to fail, as not long after taking control of the cave system a horde of creatures that resembled horribly mutated men assaulted it, seizing the Seagrot once more. The Wauling Pond Upon first entry to the Seagrot the team once more found themselves in the Wauling Pond, an … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of Snowcloak
Ibex Taxonomy: Beastkin (Antelope) Description: Speedy, herbivorous creatures, antelopes are common beastkin in Eorzea and beyond, communicating with sways of their tail. Snowcloak – The Heretic Fane
Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Since ancient times the once-verdant lands of Coerthas were divided into segments by a colossal ravine, separating the central and western highlands. This landmark was fjorded only by the Gargoyle Crossing, a large man-made bridge. When the Calamity struck Eorzea however it struck Coerthas especially hard, turning the forested realm into a tormented landscape of ice and storms. An avalanche of nigh-impossible size struck the ravine, burying it and its bridge in an immense wall of ice, which would later form a glacier known as Snowcloak. The cold struck Coerthas so hard that a group of inhabitants from the Ishgardian town of Falcon’s Nest, plagued by … [Read more...]
The Bestiary of the Stone Vigil (Hard)
Storm Biast Taxonomy: Scalekin (Biast) Description: Drakes are ferocious predatory creatures with powerful tracking abilities and the ability to exhale gouts of fire. They are perhaps most famous as domesticated beasts of the Amalj’aa. A biast, however, is a subspecies that exhales lightning instead of fire. They were here in the Vigil as followers of the Horde, as scalekin are easily dominated by dragons. Shield Dragon Taxonomy: Scalekin (Puk) Description: Although puk such as these eat primarily small vilekin, they are fiercely territorial and will not hesitate to assault a much larger trespasser. Shield Dragons seem to belong to a wingless subspecies of Puk, as most of their kind do bear small … [Read more...]
The Stone Vigil (Hard) – The Redemption of Durendaire
Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The previous cleanse of the Stone Vigil at the hands of the Warrior of Light and their allies proved sufficient to reclaim their airship, but the reconquest did not succeed in reclaiming the Vigil itself. The Dravanians simply moved back in. House Durendaire, the noted house of astrologians and warriors in Ishgard, resolved to reclaim the Vigil themselves. The venerable family was cowed by the presence of heretics and spies in their ranks, uncovered previously by outsiders to Ishgard, adding insult to injury. Lord Drillemont, one of Durendaire's foremost knights and one of the men responsible for helping to bring the infiltrators to justice, led an … [Read more...]
