The Bestiary of the Final Coil of Bahamut

Clockwork Spider Taxonomy: Forgekin (Clockwork Spider) Description: Fitted with enhanced weaponry and sophisticated defensive techniques, these clockwork spiders were also possessed of advanced AI allowing them to adapt quickly to emergent crises. Dark Matter Slime Taxonomy: Ashkin (Slime) Description: Slimes are produced when humors leaking out of corpses come to rest on an area enriched by earth aether. The earth aether adopts the aetheric energies left behind by the dead individual(s) and uses them to control the congealed biological material. These particular specimens seem to have come into contact with dark matter, a substance that is capable of melding with other materials and improving it. This … [Read more...]

The Final Coil of Bahamut

January 29, 2022 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of Dalamud’s Ruins – A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. It was at the zenith of ancient Allag, during the second reign of Xande, the revived Emperor, that the elder primal Bahamut was captured and ensorcelled within a colossal metal sphere containing vast apparatus aimed at imprisoning the primal and draining its power. This sphere would later go on to gain the name Dalamud, likely a derivation of Bahamut’s own name by later peoples, and was intended to generate power enough not only to sustain the Empire, but to bring destruction upon it by the madness-invoked apocalyptic designs of the Emperor. The Warrior of Light, in conjunction with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and other … [Read more...]

The Bestiary of Syrcus Tower

Oceanus Taxonomy: Wavekin (Sea Serpent) Description: Sea Serpents were once fantastically rare creatures, found only in the depths of the seas. With the calamity this began to change, with the serpents even daring to venture inland, where they have adjusted well to freshwater after their lives in the sea. Presumably these specimens predate all of those concerns, and were brought here by Allag in the Third Astral era, and it could be theorized that the adaptive salt-to-freshwater nature of their move inland could even hint at a chimeric origin. Etymology Notes: Oceanus was the titan personification of the ocean in Greek myths, and this is clearly easily applied to the serpents of Eorzea due to their nature as beings … [Read more...]

The Syrcus Tower – The Tyrant’s Throne

October 31, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of The Crystal Tower – A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. '...As the old Emperor, Xande, rose from his deathly repose he was briefed by Amon on the state of the Empire. Xande moved at lightning speed, creating a loyal power base in a matter of days structured around the Imperial Honour Guard. This organisation assassinated the current Emperor and his loyal supporters, in the wake of which Xande revealed himself to the world. He quickly restored the Imperial army to its fullest potential, and directed them to invade the southern continent, Meracydia. For a time the Empire seemed to be restored to a golden age; the high suicide rates plummeted, the birth rates soared, the economy … [Read more...]

Lunar Golem Taxonomy: Soulkin (Golem) Description: Golems are beings of stone animated by magic, with rumors suggesting that they may be easier to animate in the path of a calamity, although any real research will demonstrate that this is not the only time they are possible to create. These particular creatures names draw from the fact that they were animated by the energies of Dalamud. Dark Matter Roselet Taxonomy: Seedkin (Flying Trap) Description: Deeply predatory seedkin, flying traps rely on the use of their brightly colored petals to lure in prey which is then stuck to these petals by a secreted adhesive, and drained of nutrients by the plant’s roots. They are also capable of more direct combat, … [Read more...]

The Bestiary of the Labyrinth of the Ancients

June 25, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

The Homunculi Taxonomy: Elemental (Sprite) Description: Essentially a mere conjoining of aether and ideal conditions, a sprite is of no relation to the powerful elementals of the Black Shroud, and are in fact as devoid of reason and sentience as the average weather pattern. The names of these particular sprites imply their artificial nature, likely generated by the Allagans by manipulating aether. Etymology Notes: A Homunculus was a being supposedly created by sealing human sperm into a removed horse’s womb, which would supposedly grow into a miniature human being. The name has later gone on to mean many different forms of artificial life in popular culture. Greater Demon Taxonomy: Voidsent … [Read more...]

The Labyrinth of the Ancients – A Fortress in Crystal

June 22, 2021 by Niniri Niri Leave a Comment

Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of The Crystal Tower – A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. As the Third Astral Era dawned, and the survivors of the calamitous droughts experienced during the Calamity of Fire began to reconstruct they were wary of over-confidence in their gods- worshipping them as fervently as they had destroyed their entire civilizations, after all. Instead of faith in gods there developed a passion for intellectual pursuit, and the developing nations of Eorzea made breakthroughs in science daily. The foremost of these nations had been forged by the charismatic genius Xande, and was named the Kingdom of Allag. Xande was not afraid of magic or the clergy as his contemporaries were, and he … [Read more...]

The Bestiary of the Binding Coil of Bahamut

The Allagan Defense System ☠ Taxonomy: Forgekin (Defense Node) Description: The defense node was a creation of the fevered minds of Allag's upper class, too paranoid to entrust their knowledge to anything but a mechanical creation. Vast numbers of these creations could be found across key Imperial locations, and some scholars believe that Dalamud was essentially a defense node on a grand scale. This particular example of the nodes was a large, defense-specialized node, nicknamed the ADS for short by its creators. Capabilities: The ADS was a mighty contraption, and was capable of employing, amongst other things, a self-destruct protocol heralded by a loud 'click timer'. The device was also capable of compressing … [Read more...]
