Excerpt from ‘The history of Vylbrand, from Nym to Limsa Lominsa’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The Pharos was originally erected as a lighthouse to guide the ships sailing near Aleport safely, constructed by Naldiq and Vymelli's, the blacksmith/armorers guilds of Limsa Lominsa. The lighthouse was a true masterpiece, built in order to channel immense amounts of aether from the land into the tower and to its zenith, where it would be focused into a beam of light. Unfortunately, the sheer amount of aether channeled through the tower proved to be a mistake when the Seventh Umbral Calamity hit. A number of fireballs struck the Pharos, rupturing the aether-lines and overloading the crystals that lit the tower, unleashing a massive tide of aether … [Read more...]
The Binding Coil of Bahamut
Excerpt from ‘Records on the Traverse of Dalamud's Ruins - A Handbook for Scholars of Allag’ by Archon Niniri Niri. It was at the zenith of ancient Allag, during the second reign of Xande, the revived Emperor, that the elder primal Bahamut was captured and ensorcelled within a colossal metal sphere containing vast apparatus aimed at imprisoning the primal and draining its power. This sphere would later go on to gain the name Dalamud, likely a derivation of Bahamut's own name by later peoples, and was intended to generate power enough not only to sustain the Empire, but to bring destruction upon it by the madness-invoked apocalyptic designs of the Emperor. The Warrior of Light, in conjunction with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and other … [Read more...]
Amdapor Keep – Amdapor’s Golgotha
Excerpt from ‘The history of the Black Shroud, from Amdapor to Gridania’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Amdapor was founded in the aftermath of the Fifth Umbral Calamity, the Calamity of Ice, as the survivors migrated across the realm to found their own villages, each dedicated to one of the Twelve. Some of these villages grew into towns, then city-states. Amdapor was one of these, and survived the initial centuries of war and instability to emerge as one of the six larger surviving states. Amdapor was formed in Central Aldenard, in the region modernly named the South Shroud, by a group of hyur migrants who chose to build their home on a wide plain of white stone outside of the Twelveswood and 300 years after the age begun Amdapor had already … [Read more...]
The Wanderer’s Palace – Oschon Profaned
Excerpt from ‘The history of Vylbrand, from Nym to Limsa Lominsa’ by Archon Niniri Niri. The Wanderer's Palace is one of the finest relics left behind from the Fifth Astral Era. The structure was a temple or similarly sacred structure dedicated to Oschon the Wanderer. In modern Eorzea Oschon is regarded as a deity of the mountains, wanderers and vagrants, and is one of the deities associated with the element of wind alongside Llymlaen the Navigator, patron deity of Limsa Lominsa. He is represented by a walking cane and as a youthful ranger bearing a bow, and is regarded as friend to Halone the Fury, patron of Ishgard and brother of Nald'thal the Traders, twin patrons of Ul'dah. His lover is Menphina the Lover. Back in the Fifth Astral … [Read more...]
The Aurum Vale – Tomb of Avarice
Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Aurum Vale has long attracted miners and prospectors from across Aldenard due to rumors that it contained massive mithril veins. Unfortunately for the miners the rumors were incorrect, and the caves instead contained goldbile, an utterly deadly substance that gradually cooks the lungs of those who breathe its fumes, as well as corroding flesh on contact. This liquid is a fusion of mithril, sulphur and groundwater. To add even more danger to the situation the goldbile had mutated a number of the beasts within, strengthening them and making them more ferocious. This was causing a severe issue for Ishgard as the beasts were emerging from the cave to … [Read more...]
The Dzemael Darkhold – Count Tarresson’s Grief
Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Formed by the legendary Sylvetrel de Dzemael, finest of King Thordan's spearmen, Dzemael counts itself amongst the four Ishgardian High Houses. Originally a house devoted solely to military matters, the Dzemaels intermarried with the Faurechorts four centuries ago, a minor house famed for their architectural knowledge. Since then, House Dzemael has been the premier architect of Ishgard, and has increased in influence considerably, their maxim 'by the hundredth blow' echoing across Ishgard's fortifications. Count Tarresson Dzemael, the now-retired leader of the house, had a true passion for architecture, though his attempt to create what would be his … [Read more...]
The Stone Vigil – Fallen Watchers
Excerpt from ‘The history of Coerthas, from refuge to Holy See’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Records from before the Seventh Umbral Calamity testify to the Stone Vigil's role as one of four grand watchtowers belonging to Ishgard, apparently mostly under the authority of House Haillenarte, the eminent engineers and smiths of the city-state. The Stone Vigil was twinned with the Steel Vigil, and together the watchtowers braced Ishgard against attack from the Sea of Clouds. Sadly, when the Calamity struck even the mighty edifices of Ishgard were unable to defend against the catastrophe, and the Vigil's defenses were shattered, allowing the Dravanian Horde that the Holy See had been at war with to sweep in and seize the structure. House … [Read more...]
Cutter’s Cry – Grave of the Darklight
Excerpt from ‘The history of Thanalan, from Belah’dia to Ul’dah’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Cutters Cry is one of the most dangerous locations in Thanalan, if not all of Aldenard. A simple shaded cave to an inexperienced observer, the depths of the cave are both immense, labyrinthine and filled to the brim with extraordinarily dangerous wildlife. Not long before the Seventh Umbral Calamity struck the world a famed group of adventurers resolved to empty the Cry of its ferocious inhabitants. The legendary Gerbald the Red led the Darklight Raiders into the caves, and these veteran warriors made good progress through the Cry before coming to a terror forgotten by history, a chimera of ancient Allag. All but one raider was slain, the sole … [Read more...]
The Sunken Temple of Qarn – Belah’dia’s Grave
Excerpt from ‘The history of Thanalan, from Belah’dia to Ul’dah' by Archon Niniri Niri. One of the most impressive ruins of the early Sixth Astral Era, Qarn is any archeologist or historian's dream, and so this author felt extremely grateful to get the chance to poke around after it was cleared by adventurers. Qarn was a temple of Azeyma, goddess of the sun, built by Sultan Tatamefu II of Belah'dia that remained important to members of the Sultanate in the years since. The temple was undergoing a series of expansions underground, presided over by Sultan Lalafuto IV before internal strife and monetary issues forced their cancellation, followed soon after by the fall of Belah'dia. The ancient kingdom fell to a massive civil war waged … [Read more...]
Brayflox’s Longstop – The Folly of Goblinkind
Excerpt from ‘The history of Vylbrand, from Nym to Limsa Lominsa’ by Archon Niniri Niri. Deep within Eastern La Noscea, is Raincatcher Gully, a ravine filled with bright flora. The research team on this project sallied into this undergrowth to find the camp of Brayflox Alltalks. Brayflox was the goblin quartermaster of the Company of Heroes, famed for her ability to source any material required by her companions as well as her beauty, at least by goblin standards. This author has heard rumors swirling of her involvement with the illuminati, but will not deign to reply to them here. The Longstop was founded as a trade outpost by Brayflox and her kin, and the goblins proceeded to expand the facility. Unfortunately, evidence from the … [Read more...]
